Announcing the Winner of the 2017 UBC MENA Affairs Contest!


The 2017 UBC MENA Affairs Essay Contest officially came to a close on July 9. UBC students from diverse majors and backgrounds shone light on a range of political, economic and social topics within the context of the modern Middle East and North Africa.

The UBC MENA Journal’s editorial board reviewed all submissions thoroughly based on originality of the idea, level of analysis and quality of writing.

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the contest, who will be awarded a cash prize of $300, is “The Dynamics of Populism and Anti-Establishment in the 2017 Iranian Presidential Election” by Mohammad Hossein Asadi Lari.
