2017 UBC MENA Affairs Essay Contest

To celebrate the launching of the UBC MENA Journal, we are holding our first essay contest. In an op-ed, shine light on any political, economic or social topic within the context of the modern Middle East and North Africa.

Prize: $300 cash prize and recognition as the winner of the 2017 UBC MENA Affairs Essay Contest

Format: Op-ed style, 500 to 1,000 words excluding references. Pieces must be properly referenced when necessary. All citation styles are accepted.

Eligibility: Open to all current and past undergraduate and graduate UBC students

Deadline extended to: JULY 9, 2017 at 11:59pm

Op-eds will judged based on originality of the idea, level of analysis and quality of writing.

All submissions must include a brief bio indicating the author’s name, major and year, and that does not exceed three sentences.

All accepted pieces will be featured in the UBC MENA Journal website and Facebook page.
